Women in Economics Virtual Symposium 2022

Senior Jailine McElroy and Dr. Daria Sevastianova, Associate Professor of Economics, were presenters at the annualWomen in Economics Virtual Symposium 2022.They led a breakout session titled, "Leading the Way by Starting a Women in Economics Club at Your University.” Sevastianova explained, "The sessionwas dedicated to the topic of disproportionate impact of the pandemic on women and how we can lead and inspire a new generation of economists in challenging times."

Romain College of Business economics faculty and students have been involved with the annual symposium since its inception in 2018. A group from ϳԹ traveled to the symposium in2018and2019, which is hosted at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The St. Louis Fed has held subsequent symposiums,2021and 2022, virtually.

"It’s an honor to contribute to this program every year, and I was happy to share thepodiumscreen with Jailine, who is our Economics Club president," said Sevastianova. McElroy noted that “as a transfer student, I realized the importance of getting involved in student life on campus, talking to fellow classmates and professors. The club provided a great leadership opportunity, and I enjoy working on club programs and collaborating with other clubs.”

Theannual symposium began in 2018at the St. Louis Fed, along with the. This initiative is designed to connect young women with accomplished women in the economics profession who share the story of their career journey—helping inspire women who wonder if economics is a profession they should (and actually could) pursue.
